June 30, 2008

Nebraska Firm Recalls Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 531,707 pounds of ground beef components that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 were recalled. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined that there is an association between the ground beef products and 35 illnesses reported in Michigan and Ohio.

Texas Firm Recalls Cattle Heads That Contain Prohibited Materials

Cases of "Beef Whole Head." Each shipping package bears the establishment number "EST. 7041B" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as a package code of "51904" or "63922." The company is recalling all products packed between May 31, 2007, and June 24, 2008. These products were distributed to retail establishments and lunch carts in the Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas, area.

Missouri Firm Recalls Cattle Heads That Contain Prohibited Materials

Approximately 120 pounds of fresh cattle heads with tonsils not completely removed were recalled. Boxes of “Beef Head Paradise Locker Meats.” Each shipping package bears the establishment numbers “EST. 31865” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These products were sent to retail establishments and restaurants in the Kansas City, Kansas, area.

Ohio Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due To Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

An undetermined amount of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 were recalled. The products subject to recall include all varieties and weights of ground beef products bearing a Kroger label sold between May 21 and June 8 at Michigan and Central and Northwestern Ohio Kroger retail establishments. These ground beef products also include a sell-by date between "05/21/08" and "06/08/08."

California Firm Recalls Chicken Products Due To Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 130 pounds of various ready-to-eat chicken products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. These ready-to-eat chicken products were distributed to retail establishments in the Los Angeles, Calif., area. Consumers that may have purchased these ready-to-eat chicken products at retail establishments between June 2 and June 7 are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers and discard them if found.

New Jersey Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 13,275 pounds of ground beef products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled products were packaged from May 27, 2008 through June 6, 2008 and distributed to restaurants and food service institutions in the Trenton, N.J., area. These ground beef products were not available to consumers for direct purchase in retail locations.

FDA Warns Consumers Nationwide Not to Eat Certain Types of Raw Red Tomatoes

FDA recommends that consumers not eat raw red Roma, raw red plum, raw red round tomatoes, or products that contain these types of raw red tomatoes unless the tomatoes are from the sources listed below. If unsure of where tomatoes are grown or harvested, consumers are encouraged to contact the store where the tomato purchase was made. Consumers should continue to eat cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, or tomatoes grown at home.

California Firm Recalls Pork Sausages for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 290 pounds of pork blood sausages that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The products were produced on May 14, and were distributed to retail establishments in northern California.

Illinois Firm Recalls Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli 0157:H7 Contamination

An undetermined amount of beef products intended for use in ground products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. These beef products were distributed to establishments for further processing in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

New York Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products That May Contain Pieces of Plastic

Approximately 22,481 pounds of ground beef products that may contain pieces of plastic were recalled. The products were produced on May 3, and were distributed to retail establishments in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York. Products recalled include Shaw's, Price Chopper, BJ's and Fairbank Farms.

Hawaii Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 68,670 pounds of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 were recalled. The ground beef products subject to recall were produced from April 9, 2008, through April 21, 2008. The products subject to recall were distributed to retail, food service establishments and commissaries in Hawaii.


May 3, 2008

New York Firm Recalls Meat and Poultry Products for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The fresh meat and poultry salad products were produced between April 19 and April 24. The frozen products were produced between October 23, 2007, and April 23, 2008. Recalled products were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide. Products recalled include Gourmet Boutique, Jan's, and Archer Farms.


April 4, 2008

Kansas Firm Recalls Cattle Heads that Contain Prohibited Materials

Approximately 406,000 pounds of frozen cattle heads with tonsils not completely removed, which is not compliant with regulations that require the removal of tonsils from cattle of all ages, were recalled. The company is recalling all products packed before March 28, 2008, with the package code "91700" or "93700." These products were sent to distributors and wholesalers nationwide.

Ohio Firm Recalls Frozen Chicken Products Due to Mislabeling

Approximately 1,420 pounds of frozen chicken breast products were recalled because they were packaged with the incorrect label. The frozen, pre-browned, raw products were labeled as "precooked" and therefore do not provide proper preparation instructions. These raw products may appear fully cooked. The frozen chicken products were produced on Feb. 8, 2008, and were shipped to distribution centers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, intended for use by food service institutions.

Public Health Alert for Frozen Stuffed Raw Chicken Products

FSIS is issuing a public health alert due to illnesses from Salmonella associated with frozen, stuffed raw chicken products that may be contaminated with Salmonella. Products linked to the illnesses include "Chicken Breast with Rib Meat Chicken Cordon Bleu" and "Chicken Breast with Rib Meat Buffalo Style" sold under the brand names "Milford Valley Farms," "Dutch Farms" and "Kirkwood." The individually wrapped, 6-ounce products were produced on January 21, 2008.

Alabama Firm Recalls Poultry Giblets That May be Adulterated

Approximately 943,000 pounds of various fresh and frozen poultry giblets and fresh carcasses with giblets inserted that may be adulterated due to improper disposition of the giblets were recalled. The products were produced on various dates between Dec. 3, 2007 and March 12, 2008, and were distributed to institutions and restaurants nationwide.

New York Firm Recalls Meat and Poultry Products for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 6,970 pounds of meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The meat and poultry products were produced on Feb. 26 & 27, 2008, and were sent to retail establishments in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin, and distribution centers in New York.

Canadian Firm Recalls Frozen Chicken Entrées for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 3,780 pounds of frozen chicken entrées that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The frozen chicken entrées were produced on Oct. 18, 2007, and were exported to the United States and then sent to distributors and retail establishments nationwide.


March 3, 2008

Washington Firm Recalls Frozen Chicken Entrées for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 10,368 pounds of frozen chicken entrées that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The frozen chicken entrées were produced on Oct. 18, 2007, and were sent to retail establishments in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington.


March 2, 2008

Michigan Firm Recalls Frozen Chicken Entrées for Possible Listeria Contamination

Approximately 2,184 pounds of frozen chicken entrées that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were recalled. The frozen chicken entrées were produced on Oct. 18, 2007, and were sent to distributors and retail establishments in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

California Firm Recalls Beef Products Derived from Non-Ambulatory Cattle Without the Benefit of Proper Inspection

Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co., a Chino, Calif., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 143,383,823 pounds of raw and frozen beef products that FSIS has determined to be unfit for human food because the cattle did not receive complete and proper inspection. Through evidence obtained by FSIS, the establishment did not consistently contact the FSIS public health veterinarian in situations in which cattle became non-ambulatory after passing ante-mortem inspection, which is not compliant with FSIS regulations. The products subject to this recall were sent to wholesale distributors nationwide in bulk packages and are not available for direct purchase by consumers.

Oklahoma Firm Recalls Beef Products Due to Undeclared Allergens

Approximately 8,910 pounds of bacon wrapped beef tenderloin products were recalled because they may contain undeclared allergens. The products were packaged with the wrong label not identifying the product includes a marinade containing soy and milk, known allergens. The beef products were produced on Jan. 19 and 20, 2008, and were distributed to retail establishments in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Virginia Firm Recalls Chicken Products Due to Undeclared Allergen

Approximately 24,710 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breast products were recalled because they may contain an Italian seasoning which includes milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. The chicken products were produced on Jan.19, 2008, and were distributed to retail establishments in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Minnessota Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. Coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 188,000 pounds of ground beef products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The ground beef products subject to recall were produced on Oct. 30, 2007, and Nov. 6, 2007. The products subject to recall were shipped to distributors nationwide for further distribution to restaurants and food service institutions. These products were not available for purchase by consumers in retail establishments.


January 5, 2008

Michigan Firm Recalls Beef Products Due to Possible E. Coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 13,150 pounds of various cuts of steaks and ground beef products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The steak and ground beef products subject to recall were produced on Dec. 20, 21, 24 or 26, 2007, and were distributed to restaurants in the metropolitan Detroit area. These products were not available for purchase by consumers in retail establishments.

Kentucky Firm Recalls Sausage Products Due to Undeclared Allergens

Approximately 98,772 pounds of Braunschweiger liver sausage products were recalled because they may contain an undeclared allergen, non fat dry milk, which is not declared on the label. The liver sausage products were produced on various dates between Sept. 10 and Oct. 30, 2007, and were distributed to retail establishments in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Illinois Firm Recalls Beef and Chicken Base Products Due to Undeclared Allergens

Approximately 990 pounds of beef and chicken base products were recalled because they may contain undeclared allergens. The beef base product contains milk and soy, which are known allergens. Jars of the beef base product may be mislabeled as chicken base, which does not declare these allergens on the label.

Wisconsin Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products due to Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 95,927 pounds of various coarse and fine ground beef products were recalled. The ground beef products subject to recall were produced on Oct. 10, 2007, and were distributed to retail establishments and distributors in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Virginia.

Texas Firm Recalls Frozen Sausage Roll Products For Possible Listeria Contamination

Double B Foods, voluntarily recalled approximately 98,000 pounds of frozen sausage roll products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

California Firm Recalls Frozen Beef Tamales That May Contain Pieces of Metal

Approximately 3,750 pounds of frozen beef tamales were recalled because they may contain pieces of metal. The tamales come in cartons of 10 individually wrapped 5-ounce tamales "Tortilla land BEEF TAMALES, Traditional Corn Husk Wrap, All Natural."

Pennsylvania Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. Coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 1,084,384 pounds of ground beef products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7

Ohio Firm Recalls Frozen Meat Pizzas Due to Possible E. coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Products recalled include Totino's and Jeno's brand pizza products produced on or before October 30 and were distributed to retail establishments nationwide. The problem was discovered during the investigation of a multi-state cluster of E. coli 0157:H7 illnesses that may be linked to this product.

Illinois Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 173,554 pounds of frozen ground beef products were recalled. The frozen ground beef products were produced on June 12, June 18 and June 22, 2007, and were distributed to retail establishments nationwide.


Georgia Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli 0157:H7 Contamination

Approximately 1,900 pounds of ground beef were recalled. The beef products were produced between Oct. 7 and Oct. 9, 2007, and were distributed to restaurants in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. There was no retail distribution of these products.

Frozen Pot Pie Products Recalled Due to Potential Link to an Outbreak of Salmonellosis

The following brands and all varieties, including chicken, turkey and beef frozen pot pie products are subject to this recall: Banquet, Albertson's, Food Lion, Great Value, Hill Country Fare, Kirkwood, Kroger, Meijer, Western Family.

Public Health Alert Issued for Frozen Not-Ready-To-Eat Pot Pie Products

Banquet brand and generic store brand frozen not-ready-to-eat pot pie products with “P-9” printed on the side of the package may be the potential source of reported illnesses caused by Salmonella based on epidemiological evidence collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and State public health departments.

Approximately 845,000 pounds of frozen ground beef patties were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. Products were produced between August 9 and 17 and distributed nationwide.

Approximately 21.7 million pounds of frozen ground beef products were recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Products distributed to food service institutions in the New York metropolitan area and to retail establishments nationwide.

Utah Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products That May Contain Pieces of Metal

Five-pound packages (chubs) of "GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN - 27% FAT." Each label bears a "sell-by" date of "09/19/07" The products were produced on September 5, and were distributed to retail grocery stores in Utah and Mesquite, Nevada.

Fisher-Price Recalls Bongo Band Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

The recalled toys have two bongos, including one with a yellow and green plastic drum base with a blue drum surface. The other bongo is yellow and green plastic drum base with an orange drum surface with “It’s a Big, Big World” printed on it. Fisher-Price Recalls Geo Trax Locomotive Toys Due To Violation of Lead Paint Standard

The recall involves the Geo Trax Freightway Transport and Geo Trax Special Track Pack locomotive toys. These toys are red with yellow paint on the ladder and horn details.
