The Southern Nevada Health District recently reported Clark County’s second human West Nile virus case for 2007. The individual, a female under age 50, contracted the more serious form of the illness.
In July, the health district reported its first case of West Nile virus in a Clark County resident under the age of 50 with the milder form of the illness. So far this year, Nevada has reported a total of four human West Nile virus cases. In 2006, Nevada had a total of 123 human cases of West Nile virus, including one death. Three Clark County residents contracted the illness last year, all of whom contracted it while traveling outside of the area.
